Clinical peels 101

Learn the benefits of clinical peels and book your peel at our Ontario day spas.

Want to level up your skincare routine this summer? We have the most a-peel-ing idea!

Clinical peels, often referred to as chemical peels, are non-invasive treatments that involve the application of a chemical solution to the skin to remove dead skin cells and reveal new, healthier skin underneath. There are several types of peels available, such as glycolic, salicylic, trichloroacetic and lactic acids, all of which provide benefits for different skin types.

At Sanctuary Day Spa, our advanced peels are customizable. Prior to your peel, a thorough consultation with one of our experienced skincare specialists will help you select the peel or series of peels that is best for your individual needs and skincare concerns.

Benefits of clinical peels

Anti-aging effects. As we age, our skin doesn’t regenerate itself like it used to (darn it!). With the loss of collagen production, you’ll start to see wrinkles and fine lines. Clinical peels can help reduce these and other signs of aging.

Improved texture. Peels can smooth your skin, reduce uneven tones, and reduce the appearance of scars and blemishes, resulting in a more youthful appearance.

Reduced acne. Decrease the frequency and severity of certain types of acne with a clinical peel, which will help unclog pores, reduce oil production and prevent new pimples from forming. It can also help reduce the appearance of acne scars.

Reduced hyperpigmentation. Hyperpigmentation refers to dark spots on your skin, usually caused by sun damage, aging and genetics. By removing the top layer of skin, clinical peels can help with their appearance.

Increased hydration. Clinical peels slough off more dead skin than your everyday exfoliant, allowing moisturizers and other hydrating products to penetrate more deeply into the skin and do their job.

The Mayo Clinic has compiled a helpful list of what to expect before, during and after your clinical peel procedure. Whatever type of clinical peel you choose, make sure to continue a solid skincare routine at home to maintain your results. You should also stay hydrated, use gentle products that won’t irritate the skin and always, always, always use sunscreen after your skin has healed.
