Debunking 3 common skincare myths

We debunk three common skincare myths to help you make informed decisions and build a solid skincare routine.

While the advent of technology has made it easier than ever to access information, there are downsides, particularly when it comes to finding accurate information. In our quest for glowing skin, we often stumble across skincare advice that is conflicting, misleading or even downright incorrect.

We debunk three common skincare myths to help you make informed decisions and build a solid skincare routine that sees results.

MYTH #1: You only need to wear sunscreen on sunny summer days.

SPF is an essential step in any skincare routine—year-round!

Yes, that means you should be applying sunscreen every day of the year, even if it’s overcast and during the winter months. UV rays are still powerful even if it’s not a sunny summer day, and can cause damage to your skin like premature aging and sunspots.

Your skin is your body’s largest organ so it’s important keep it safe and protected! Don’t forget about your lips, too. Learn more in our recent blog post on sun safety.

MYTH #2: Popping pimples is the best way to get rid of them.

We know it’s tempting to squeeze a pimple, but doing so can introduce bacteria into the skin and cause even more acne (not to mention potential scarring). The same goes for picking at a pimple!

Leave extractions to the pros to avoid further issues, or try a spot treatment with healing ingredients and keep your hands off until it’s healed.

MYTH #3: Everyone should exfoliate every day.

Put down that exfoliant!

While exfoliating is crucial for removing dead skin cells, over-exfoliating (or exfoliating with products that are too harsh for your skin type) can damage your skin barrier and lead to all kinds of issues like irritation, increased dryness or even breakouts.

Our skincare experts are happy to recommend gentle products that are suitable for your skin type, as well as how often you should use them (typically two to three times a week).

BONUS MYTH: You need to purchase a lot of products for an effective skincare routine.

Many mistakenly believe you need a lengthy routine with dozens of products to see results. We’re here to tell you that’s not the case!

Using the right products is far more important than using products that aren’t suited for your skin type. Keeping it simple, but effective, is key!

While lots of misinformation is floating around, we hope these facts will help you build a better routine and keep your skin healthy and happy.
